Canisius and Mount St. Mary’s Garner Second Wins of the Season to Highlight MAAC Men’s Basketball Play on Sunday

EDISON, NJ (Nov. 21, 2022) – Canisius College and Mount St. Mary’s University each won its second game of the young season on Sunday to highlight Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) men’s basketball non-conference play.

The Canisius men's basketball team set a program record in threes, en route to a 98-52 win over Fredonia Sunday evening at the Koessler Athletic Center. The Griffs made a school-record 20 triples, the most in a game by a MAAC school since 2014-15 and the Griffs defense forced 21 turnovers in the win. Canisius junior Siem Uijtendaal set a school record with 10 3-point field goals, eight of which he drained in the game's first 20 minutes, ending the night with a career-high 30 points, becoming the first Griff to score 30-or more points in a home game since 2018. Redshirt-freshman Tahj Staveskie scored 15 points to go with four assists and four steals, while graduate student Jamir Moultrie added 12 points and three assists to the winning effort.

Mount St. Mary's used a balanced effort to lead to a 73-68 road win at Cal Poly in the California Thanksgiving Jam on Sunday night. The victory was the second of the season for Mount St. Mary’s, which used a 14-to-1 second-half run to take control of the game. Four players scored in double figures for the Mount led by Jalen Benjamin’s 18 points, while Dakota Leffew (16), Malik Jefferson (14) and George Tinsley (11) also reached double figures in the win.

Siena men’s basketball fell to Ivy League powerhouse Harvard, 69-59, at Lavietes Pavilion on Sunday. Andrew Platek posted his third straight Siena (2-2) career-high tying 15-point performance, while Jackson Stormo scored 12 points and pulled down six rebounds.
