The 2022-23 MAAC Women’s Basketball Season Tips-off Today
 
EDISON, NJ (Nov. 7, 2022) – The 2022-23 Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) Women’s basketball regular season begins today Monday, November 7 with nine teams in action between 5-7 p.m. All 11 member schools will take the court on opening week, with the final two squads playing on Thursday, November 10.
 
Canisius starts things off Monday with its 5pm home opener against crosstown rival Buffalo; while Quinnipiac, and Mount St. Mary’s kick things off on the road at 5pm. Quinnipiac travels to Raleigh, North Carolina to take on the 10th ranked team in the nation, NC State at the James Valvano Arena.  
 
MAAC newcomer, Mount St. Mary’s University will start their season at Virginia Tech, Wednesday at 5pm. While the Mountaineers are new to the MAAC, they return eight players and look to rely on their veterans this season.
 
Saint Peter’s and first year coach Jennifer Leedham, start off the season the season taking on an in-state opponent in Seton Hall. With eight newcomers on this year’s squad, and a new coach at the helm, the Peacocks look to bring new energy to the program.
 
 
Rider opens its season at home in Lawrenceville, NJ against in state foe NJIT. The season opener will be a monumental night at for the Broncs, as Rider alum, Stella Johnson, will see her number 4 jersey retired prior to tipoff.
 
Last years, MAAC regular season and tournament champions, Fairfield, travel to Rhode Island to take on Brown for their opening game of the 2022-2023 season. Led by pre-season All-MAAC honorees, Callie Cavanaugh and Andrea Hernangomez, the Stags look to start the year off strong.
 
 
Manhattan begins its season at home Monday, in a 7pm match up against Wagner.  The Jaspers are led this year by the MAAC preseason Player of the Year, Dee Dee Davis, and preseason third team All- MAAC selection Bazil Harvey- Carr.
 
The Marist Red Foxes will face Villanova Monday night in Poughkeepsie, for their season opener. With eight returners from last year, including preseason All-MAAC honorees, Kiara Fisher and Zaria Shazer, Marist looks to exceed expectations this year. With head coach, Brian Giorgis, entering his final season at the helm after 21 seasons, Marist is poised to have a memorable season.
 
The Niagara University Purple Eagles open the season at Loyola (Md.) in a rematch of last year’s home opener that they won 81-71. Picked to finish third in the preseason coaches’ poll, Niagara will be led this year by unanimous preseason All-MAAC honorees Angel Parker and Aaliyah Parker.  
 
The final MAAC teams to start their seasons, Iona, and Siena, will begin competition on Thursday, November 10. Iona, led by preseason all MAAC selections, Juana Camilion and Ketsia Athias, looks to start off the season strong in their season opener at home against Wagner.
 
Siena begins play Thursday, November 10 against the University of New Hampshire. The youthful Saint’s bring in eight newcomers and look to build off of last year’s success.
