Mount St. Mary’s and Quinnipiac Knock Off Patriot League Teams in MAAC Men’s Basketball Non-Conference Action on Saturday

EDISON, NJ (Dec. 11, 2022) – Mount St. Mary’s University and Quinnipiac University both defeated Patriot League foes in Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) men’s basketball out of conference action on Saturday. The Mountaineers dominated Loyola Maryland and the Bobcats beat Lafayette.

Mount St. Mary's picked up a 51-34 victory over rival Loyola in the 177th edition of the Catholic Clash at Knott Arena on Saturday night. The Mount used a strong defensive performance, holding Loyola to 10 points in the first half, the fewest points allowed by the Mountaineers in a half in the school’s DI era. Xavier Lipscomb and Jedy Cordilia each scored 12 points to pace the Mount in the victory.

Quinnipiac men's basketball earned a double-digit win over Lafayette, 76-63, in non-conference action at M&T Bank Arena in Hamden. The Bobcats improve to 9-2 so far in 2022-23 with the home victory. Luis Kortright finished with a near triple-double, recording 14 points, 12 rebounds and nine assists. Ike Nweke and Matt Balanc led the Bobcats with 17 points each and Tyrese Williams chipped in with 10 points.

Canisius fell on the road to Toledo 69-68 Saturday afternoon at the Savage Arena in Toledo, Ohio. Canisius guard Tahj Staveskie last second heave came up short in the one-point defeat. Staveskie led the Golden Griffs with a season-high 19 points, followed by Jordan Henderson with 17 pointsand Jacco Fritz posted his second-straight double-double after he scored 12 points to go with a team-high 12 rebounds.
