EDISON, NJ (Dec. 20, 2022) – Manhattan College moved into a first-place tie in the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) men’s basketball standings after improving to 2-0 in league play, while Siena College knocked off out of conference rival St. Bonaventure to reclaim the Br. Ed Coughlin Franciscan Cup on Monday night.

Manhattan improved to 2-0 in MAAC play following an 80-69 road win at Marist on Monday night at McCann Arena. The win for the Jaspers snapped a four-game losing streak and moved the team into a first-place tie with 2-0 Iona on the MAAC leaderboard, while the Red Foxes drop to 0-1 in league action. Manhattan hit 14 threes in the win, one shy of the program single-game record, taking a lead as large as 16 in the game. The Jaspers had two players score above 20 points, with Ant Nelson posting a game-high 22 points and Samir Stewart scoring 20 points, while Nick Brennen chipped in with 15 points. Noah Harris led three Marist double-digit scorers with 14 points, shooting 4-for-6 from the field, 3-for-5 from three-point range, and 3-for-3 from the free-throw line. Javon Cooley finished with 13 points and Patrick Gardner had 12 points.

Siena earned its second Franciscan Cup triumph in three years with a 76-70 victory over sister-school St. Bonaventure at MVP Arena on Monday night, returning the Br. Ed Coughlin Franciscan Cup to Loudonville. The Saints used a late 9-1 run, to propel the team to their sixth victory of the season. Javian McCollum scored a game-high 23 points, while Jackson Stormo added 14, Andrew Platek scored 11 points, and Michael Eley added 10 points in the win.

Rider men's basketball fell in a heartbreaker to Delaware on Jameer Nelson tip-in with 3.6 seconds left Monday night at Alumni Gym. With the loss, the Broncs' three-game winning streak is snapped, moving their record to 4-5. The Broncs’ led for 31:33 in the game, compared to just 3:27 for Delaware. Dwight Murray, Jr. led the Broncs with 21 points and four assists and Allen Powell added 15 points on 6-of-14 shooting.
