EDISON, NJ (Dec. 26, 2022) – Iona University defeated Pepperdine in its final contest of the 2022 Hawaiian Airlines Diamond Head Classic to headline Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) men’s basketball non-conference action on Christmas Day.

Iona men's basketball knocked off Pepperdine, 76-66, for a fifth place finish at the 2022 Hawaiian Airlines Diamond Head Classic at the Stan Sheriff Center. The Gaels closed out the tournament 2-1 and improved to 9-4 overall, which included going 7-4 in non-conference play on the season. Nelly Junior Joseph recorded a double-double in the victory, scoring 20 points and grabbing 13 rebounds, en route to being named to the All-Tournament team. Daniss Jenkins posted a near triple-double, adding 11 points, nine rebounds, and eight assists. Walter Clayton Jr. and Quinn Slazinski also scored in double-figures for the Gaels, scoring 18 and 12 points, respectively.
 
The 2022-23 campaign culminates with the 2023 Hercules Tires MAAC Men’s and Women’s Basketball Championships from March 7-11 at Atlantic City's Jim Whelan Boardwalk Hall for the fourth consecutive year.
