EDISON, NJ (Dec. 4, 2022) – Both Fairfield University and Rider University earned their first wins in Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) men’s basketball league play on Saturday. In their home opener, the Stags defeated the Peacocks in front of a sold out Mahoney Arena crowd. The Broncs picked up their first MAAC victory on the road at Mount St. Mary’s, spoiling the Mountaineers conference home opener.

Fairfield earned a 67-55 win over visiting Saint Peter's in the men’s basketball debut at the Leo D. Mahoney Arena on Saturday night in Fairfield, CT in front of a sold out crowd of 3,516. The Stags improved to an even 1-1 in MAAC play, while the defending MAAC champion Peacocks dropped to 0-2. Fairfield had a quartet of players reach double figures, led by Caleb Fields’ 19 points and Supreme Cook’s double-double of 11 points and 11 rebounds. Allan Jeanne-Rose (11) and Jalen Leach (10) also scored double digits for the Stags. Saint Peter's was led by Isiah Dasher who scored 15 points and Latrell Reid who added a double-double with 14 points and 10 boards.

Rider earned a 68-65 road win at MAAC newcomer Mount St. Mary's Saturday evening in Emmitsburg, MD. The game was a back-and-forth affair that featured 12 lead changes and eight ties. Down the final stretch, Rider led by three-points and Mount St. Mary’s missed on two opportunities at three-point attempts to tie the game, sealing the meeting for the Broncs. Dwight Murray Jr. had a game-high 19 points, while Mervin James (14) and Allen Powell (13) also surpassed double digits for the Broncs. Jalen Benjamin paced the Mount with 18 points while Deandre Thomas added 14 points and seven assists. Rider improves to 1-0 in the MAAC and Mount St. Mary’s falls to 1-1.
