EDISON, NJ (Dec. 8, 2022) – Three Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) men’s basketball teams claimed out of conference victories on Wednesday night in New England. Fairfield University defeated Sacred Heart at home in Fairfield, CT, Quinnipiac University knocked off Holy Cross in Worcester, MA, and Rider University outlasted Stonehill in North Easton, MA for the league’s trio of wins.

Fairfield men's basketball used a last second basket to earn a 61-59 win over visiting Sacred Heart on Wednesday at the Leo D. Mahoney Arena. Caleb Fields hit the game-tying bucket and then game-winning layup with 0.9 seconds remaining to cap a 7-0 run over the final 3:13 and lift the Stag to their second straight win on their new home floor. Fields scored a game-high 18 points and Supreme Cook recorded his second straight double-double scoring 15 points and grabbing a season-high 13 rebounds in the win.

Quinnipiac men's basketball held on for a 75-71 road victory over Holy Cross in non-conference action on Wednesday night. The Bobcats move to 8-2 overall on the season and are 4-0 in away games in 2022-23 - the only undefeated MAAC team on the road this year. Ike Nweke led Quinnipiac with 15 points, JJ Riggins chipped in with 13 points, Matt Balanc added 12 points and Luis Kortright scored 10 points in the win. The Bobcat’s 8-2 (.800) overall record leads the conference this season.

The Rider men's basketball team pulled away from Stonehill, 78-67, Wednesday night at Merkert Gymnasium in out of conference action. The win was the third-straight for the Broncs as the team improved to 4-4 overall. Mervin James posted season-highs of 23 points, 13 rebounds for his first double-double in a Rider uniform. Dwight Murray, Jr. added 20 points and five rebounds and Ajiri Ogemuno-Johnson scored 19 points while also grabbing nine rebounds.
