Monmouth Selected as Men’s Lacrosse Preseason Favorite; Jake Rosa Named Preseason Player of the Year

EDISON, NJ (Feb. 2, 2022) – Monmouth University has been tabbed as the favorites in the 2022 Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) Men’s Lacrosse Preseason Coaches’ Poll and St. Bonaventure’s Jake Rosa has been named Preseason Player of the Year, as voted on by the league’s head coaches.
 
The Hawks, which received 46 points and all but one first place vote, enter 2022 as the favorites to repeat as MAAC tournament champions. Monmouth posted an overall record of 8-3 and a 4-2 MAAC mark, earning a share of the regular season title. The Hawks capped off the 2021 campaign by winning the MAAC Championship crown with a 14-9 win over Manhattan, the program’s second ever league championship, first since 2017. 
 
Marist College was a close second, receiving 41 total points and 2021 runner-up and Co-Regular season champions Manhattan finished in third-place with a total of 32 votes.
 
The league’s top offensive player in 2021, Rosa, earned MAAC Offensive Player of the Year honors after leading the conference with 39 points and 22 assists. His points per game average ranked 38th nationally and his assists per game was 18th best in the country.  He also scored 17 goals during his first full season and led the Bonnies in shot percentage. In addition to being named Offensive Player of the Year, Rosa was selected to the All-MAAC First Team and MAAC All-Championship Team last season.
 
Rosa and Marist’s JT Roselle were the only unanimous selections to the Preseason All-MAAC lineup. The rest of the Preseason All-MAAC Team can be found below.

The 2022 MAAC Men's Lacrosse Championship will take place on May 5 and 7. The four-team championship will be hosted by the highest seed with the semifinal round played on Thursday and the championship final played on Saturday.
