Fairfield, Manhattan, Monmouth, Niagara, Saint Peter’s All Improve to .500 or Better in MAAC Play

EDISON, NJ (February 11, 2022) – Fairfield handled Iona defensively, Courtney Warley recorded her 11th double-double of the season in Manhattan’s win over Rider, Monmouth clawed their way back over Canisius, Niagara had an offensive outbreak to defeat Marist, and Saint Peter’s handled Siena to get back to .500.

The Fairfield University women’s basketball team locked down Iona College on Thursday, 54-29. Sam Lewis and Rachel Hakes combined for 24 of Fairfield's points as they both connected on three 3-pointers. In Lou Lopez-Senechal’s return to the lineup, the MAAC’s leading-scorer contributed 11 points. Olivia Vezaldenos led the Gaels with 12 points.

Courtney Warley’s 11th double-double of the season propelled Manhattan College over Rider University on Thursday, 56-49. Warley recorded game-highs with 22 points and 13 rebounds. The Jaspers went on an 11-0 run at the beginning of the second quarter led by four of Jenna Jordan’s 10 points. Dee Dee Davis added 14 in the win as well. Three Broncs scored double-figures including 17 points from Makayla Firebaugh, 12 points from Jessika Schiffer and 10 points from Anna Ekerstedt.

Six Purple Eagles reached double-digit scoring numbers as Niagara soared past Marist 85-67 in MAAC women's basketball action Thursday night from the Gallagher Center. Angel Parker led the Purple Eagles with 19 points, Aaliyah Parker, Lore Porter and Kyra Grimshaw each scored 12 points, Ally Haar added 11 points while Olivia Mason contributed 10 points. For the Red Foxes, Anabel Ellison scored a team-high 15 points, Catie Cunningham added 13 points and eight rebounds and Kendall Krick finished with 12 points.

The Monmouth women's basketball team erupted in the fourth quarter to surge past Canisius, 62-52, in a Thursday night MAAC contest. Monmouth trailed 36-33 entering the final 10 minutes of action before outscoring Canisius,29-16, en route to securing the conference road victory. Lucy Thomas led the Hawks with 16 points, Jania Hall finished with 11 points and Stella Clark added 10 points. Athina Lexa led the Griffs with 16  points and seven rebounds and Dani Haskell added 15.

The Saint Peter's University women's basketball team beat Siena 70-59 Thursday night at Run Baby Run Arena. Graduate guard Kendrea Williams led the team in scoring with 19 points. She also recorded two assists and a block. Kourtney Crane recorded 13 points, Kassondra Brown added 11 points and Tyara McQueen finished with 10 points. Margo Peterson scored a game-high 24 points for the Saints while Selena Philoxy added 12 points and Valencia Fontenelle-Posson finished with 10 points.
