Fairfield and Marist Improve Home Winning Streaks in MAAC Men’s Basketball

Late heroics lifted Fairfield to an 80-76 win over visiting Canisius on Monday night at Webster Bank Arena. Taj Benning hit a layup at the buzzer to force overtime and Caleb Green sank the go-ahead jumper to beat the shot clock in the final seconds of the extra period to carry the Stags to their second straight MAAC home win. Jesus Cruz scored a career-high 25 points, while Benning netted 17 and Supreme Cook added 10 points. Three Griffs scored in double-figures, led by senior Malek Green, who posted 19 points, with Jordan Henderson and Xzavier Long each tallying 15 points.

Marist earned its third straight win with a 77-70 triumph over Niagara in a MAAC game on Monday night at McCann Arena. The three-game winning streak is the first of the season for the Red Foxes. Marist had the trio of Jao Ituka (20), Ricardo Wright (19), and Jordan Jones (18), combine for 57 points in the victory. Marcus Hammond led four Purple Eagles in double-figures with a game-high 21 points, followed by Julian Mackey (16), Noah Thomasson (13), and Greg Kuakumensah (12).
 
The 2021-22 campaign culminates with the 2022 Hercules Tires MAAC Men’s and Women’s Basketball Championships from March 8-12 at Atlantic City's Jim Whelan Boardwalk Hall.
