POUGHKEEPSIE, New York - Marist head coach
Brian Giorgis collected his 450th career win on Thursday as the Red Foxes took down Saint Peter's in a Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference game by a score of 51-41 in McCann Arena.
- Both teams were held scoreless until 7:54 left in the first quarter, but a 7-0 run led by five points from Zaria Shazer gave the Red Foxes a 7-2 lead with just under five minutes left in the first quarter.
- At the end of the first quarter, Marist had a 11-8 lead and was holding Saint Peter's to 27.3% shooting from the field.
- A Trinasia Kennedy three with four minutes left in the first half ended a 4:57 field goal drought for Marist and gave them a 17-10 lead.
- Heading into the locker room, Marist maintained a 19-13 lead after only giving up 5 points in the second quarter. In the last 7:49 of the half, Marist forced 7 turnovers and held Saint Peter's to 23.8% shooting from the field.
- An 8-0 run early in the third quarter by Saint Peter's tied the game for the first time since 2-2 early in the first quarter.
- Marist responded with a 5-0 run, highlighted by a Siobhan Boylan transition three, to regain the lead 26-21. She responded with another three with 1:25 left in the third quarter to give the Red Foxes a 33-26 lead.
- Marist started the fourth quarter on a 6-0 run and still hadn't let up a point with 4:39 left.
- A Kendall Krick layup to put the Red Foxes up by 8 with 1:45 left in regulation proved to be the dagger as they defeated Saint Peter's by a score of 51-41.
- Saint Peter's 41 points is the fewest points allowed all season by Marist and well below their season average of 61.5 opponent points per game
- Zaria Shazer was dominant all game, recording a team high 13 points and a team high 7 rebounds.
- Marist forced 29 turnovers and was able to score 16 points off those turnovers.
- Trinasia Kennedy also got into double digits, scoring 12 points on 7-8 shooting from the free throw line.
- Kassondra Brown led all scorers with 15 points for the Peacocks, and Sky Castro collected a game-high 12 rebounds.
- The win snaps a 6-game losing streak for the Red Foxes, dating back to January 27th.
- This win gives Marist the season split with Saint Peter's, with both teams winning on their home court.
- Marist improves to 39-19 all-time against Saint Peter's, and is 8-2 in their last ten meetings.
