EDISON, NJ (Feb. 7, 2022) – Niagara’s upset win over undefeated Iona headlined Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) men’s basketball Sunday. Moreover, Canisius, Monmouth and Saint Peter’s used balanced offensive efforts to claim wins, while Siena earned a sweep for the fourth consecutive season.

Canisius ended a four-game skid, defeating Manhattan 77-70 in the Koessler Athletic Center on Sunday. The Golden Griffins have won five of their last six games at home, dating back to Dec. 18. Canisius had nine out of 10 players to step on the floor score at least two points. Jordan Henderson led the Griffs with 19 points, followed by 17 points from Armon Harried and 16 points by Xzavier Long. Manhattan had four players score in double figures led by Jose Perez’s game-high 22 points; Romar Reid and Josh Roberts had 13 each, while Elijah Buchanan put in 10 points.

Monmouth beat Quinnipiac, 76-63 on Sunday in Hamden, CT. The road win for the Hawks was the ninth of the season, adding on to the nation’s lead for true road victories. Monmouth had four score in double digits, with Walker Miller’s 22 points leading the way, followed by George Papas with 15 points, Marcus McClary’s 13 points, and 12 points from Shavar Reynolds. Tyrese Williams led the Bobcats with 14 points, and Jacob Rigoni added 10 points.

Niagara secured the biggest upset of the day, handing Iona its first MAAC loss of the season, by way of an 80-71, home win inside of the Gallagher Center on Sunday afternoon. The win halted the Gaels eight-game winning streak and ended the team’s 11 game MAAC streak. Marcus Hammond (26) and Noah Thomasson (20) each surpassed 20 points in the win, to lead the Purple Eagles, while Sam Iorio chipped in with 15 points. Elijah Joiner led Iona with 22 points, with Tyson Jolly and Walter Clayton Jr. adding 12 points each.

Saint Peter’s kept its hot streak going, taking down Marist 66-50 at Run Baby Run Arena on Sunday. The Peacocks have now won eight of their last 10 games and remain alone in second-place on the MAAC standings. 11 different players on Saint Peter’s scored at least one point, with Daryl Banks III leading the way with a game-high 13 points in 11 minutes. Branden Bell led Marist with 11 points and Jordan Jones added 10 points.

Siena won a gritty 62-56 victory over Fairfield Sunday afternoon at Webster Bank Arena. The Saints led for almost 38 minutes, claiming a season sweep over the Stags for the fourth straight season. Anthony Gaines led the Saints with 15 points, Colby Rogers followed with 12 points and Jackson Stormo added 10 points. Taj Benning was the lone double-digit scorer for Fairfield, scoring 10 points.
