Niagara’s Hammond and Canisius’ Long Awarded Hercules Tires MAAC Men’s Basketball Weekly Accolades

Hammond averaged 23.0 points per game, 6.0 rebounds per game and 6.0 assists per game as Niagara swept its games this weekend. Against Manhattan on Friday, Hammond had 20 points, eight rebounds and six helpers. He shot 50% from the field and 60% from 3-point range. In an upset of Iona, Hammond led all scorers with 26 points. He added four rebounds, six assists, one block and one steal and made a season-high 10 field goals. He shot 62.5% from the field. Over the weekend, Hammond shot 57.1% from the field and 45.5% from three.
 
Rookie of the Week
Xzavier Long, Canisius

Canisius freshman Xzavier Long averaged 10.0 points and 6.3 rebounds per game last week in three MAAC games for the Golden Griffins. In the team's win over Manhattan on Sunday, Long scored 16 points, his best effort in a league game to date, and he also grabbed four boards to go with three assists and two steals. In a road loss at Siena on Feb. 1, the Washington, D.C., native grabbed a season-high 10 rebounds. He shot 64.7 percent from the field for the week, highlighted by a 78.6 percent effort from inside the arc.
