EDISON, NJ (Mar. 30, 2022) – As announced on February 3, as part of the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) Men’s Lacrosse ESPN TV schedule, the regular season matchup between Quinnipiac University and Marist College on Saturday, April 2 will air nationally on ESPNU. Face-off between the Bobcats and Red Foxes is slated for 10 a.m. in Hamden, Connecticut.
Quinnipiac was selected fourth in the Preseason Coaches’ Poll, and earned one first place vote ahead of the season after winning the MAAC Co-Regular Season title in 2021. The Bobcats are currently 0-2 in conference play (1-6 overall), having dropped both contests to last season’s champion and runner-up, in Monmouth and Manhattan. Despite the team’s record, Quinnipiac leads the conference in man-up goals (10), ground balls per game (30.86), face-off percentage (.592), and ranks second in goals per game (10.00). Steven Germain is the offensive leader for Quinnipiac with 21 points on the season (15 goals, 6 assists) and he ranks sixth in the MAAC in points per game, seventh in goals per game, and 10th in both total points and total goals. Face-off specialist Demitri George has picked up a league-best 55 ground balls and is averaging the most ground balls per game with his 7.86 average.
Marist entered the 2022 season picked second in the Preseason Coaches’ Poll, and is currently tied for fourth-place with a 1-1 league mark, while holding a 2-6 overall record. The Red Foxes fell in the MAAC opener by one goal to first-place St. Bonaventure (7-6), before edging Siena by a goal this past Saturday (11-10). Marist is a top defensive unit in the MAAC, forcing the most caused turnovers (70) and caused turnovers per game average (8.75), while posting the third-best saves per game average (14.50). The Red Foxes’ have a quartet of players that are top-10 on the MAAC leaderboard in caused turnovers, which include MAAC leader JT Roselle, Kurt Wessner (third), Anthony Filippetti (fifth), and Tyler Ammirato (sixth). On the offensive side of the ball, Jojo Pirreca is fifth in assists per game (1.13) and ninth in both points per game (2.75) and total points (22).
When the two teams last met during the 2021 season, Marist defeated Quinnipiac 14-9 in Poughkeepsie, NY on Apr. 20. Overall, the Red Foxes hold a slim 9-8 advantage over the Bobcats dating back to 1991, with the two sides splitting the six games played in Connecticut at Quinnipiac over that timeframe.
The 2022 MAAC Men's Lacrosse Championship will take place on May 5 and 7. The four-team championship will be hosted by the highest seed with the semifinal round played on Thursday and the championship final played on Saturday. The championship title game will start at 10 a.m. with the match airing on ESPNU.
