ATLANTIC CITY, NJ (March 7, 2022) – The Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) has announced its 2021-22 Women’s Basketball All-Rookie Team. The All-Rookie Team is voted on by the league’s 11 head coaches.
The MAAC All-Rookie Team is comprised of Canisius College’s Athina Lexa, Manhattan College’s Petra Juric, Niagara University’s Aaliyah Parker, Quinnipiac University’s Jackie Grisdale, and Siena College’s Imani Harris.
Canisius’ Athina Lexa was a unanimous MAAC All-Rookie Team selection after scoring 8.3 points per game, including a season-high 26 points against in the Griffs’ 65-61 win over Marist on February 12. Lexa shot 43.2 percent from the field and 32.1 percent from beyond the arc. The Thessaloniki, Greece native averaged 2.7 rebounds per game and tallied 27 assists.
All-Rookie Team selection Petra Juric of Manhattan garnered MAAC Rookie of the Week honors on December 20 after she scored eight points and grabbed 11 rebounds against Niagara. The Zagrib, Croatia native averaged 5.9 points per game and 4.9 rebounds per game. Juric scored a season-high 16 points in a 75-55 win over Army West Point on November 13.
Niagara’s unanimous All-Rookie selection Aaliyah Parker garnered eight MAAC Rookie of the Week honors while she led all MAAC rookies in scoring. Parker averaged 12.2 points per game and totaled 329 points. She also grabbed 6.4 rebounds per game which led the Purple Eagles, totaled 45 assists, and averaged 2.2 steals per game. The Cheektowaga, NY native scored a season-high 22 points at Rider on January 18; Parker totaled four 20-plus point performances.
Quinnipiac’s Jackie Grisdale scored a season-high 26 points on February 29 at Niagara. Grisdale averaged 5.0 points per game and garnered MAAC Rookie of the Week honors for the week of February 7 after scoring 17 points at Monmouth in her lone start of the season. The Poland, Ohio native shot 42.4 percent from the field and 38 percent from beyond the arc.
Siena’s Imani Harris earned MAAC All-Rookie honors after she averaged 4.1 points per game and 2.1 rebounds per game. The Bronx, NY native was selected as MAAC Rookie of the Week after she averaged seven points and four assists in wins over Manhattan and Marist on January 13 and 15.
