Rider’s Gonzalez, Marist’s Myers, and Saint Peter’s Slusser Win MAAC Softball Weekly Awards

Player of the Week:
Elena Gonzalez, Rider
Jr., Ashburn, VA, Stone Bridge
 
Gonzalez hit .381 (8-for-21) with three doubles, a pair of home runs and 13 RBI's in the Broncs' 4-1 weekend at the Spartan-Pirate Clash. She opened the weekend with a pair of three-hit efforts in Rider wins, driving in six Friday at Norfolk State, before collecting four RBI's Saturday against Bryant. She added a pair of hits - a double and a home run - to drive in three more in the Broncs' Sunday win at Hampton.
 
Pitcher of the Week:
Kiley Myers, Marist
Jr., Latrobe, PA, Greater Latrobe
 
Myers went 2-0 with a 1.24 ERA over 17 innings in her two appearances this past week. She pitched complete games in both contests, which both went to extra innings and were one-run games. Myers struck out 14, walked just three, and allowed the opposition to hit just .238 this past week. In an eight-inning 2-1 win over Buffalo on March 4, Myers had eight strikeouts. In a 3-2 win in nine innings at Southeastern Louisiana on March 5, Myers had six strikeouts against just one walk, and did not allow a run over the final eight innings.
 
Rookie of the Week:
Kasidy Slusser, Saint Peter’s
Fr., Hanover Township, PA, Hanover Area
 
Kasidy Slusser earned a pair of wins in the circle for the Saint Peter's softball team, coming on in relief and slamming the door each time. Against Youngstown State on Saturday, Slusser came on in relief and picked up the win after not allowing a run over 3.0 innings of work on just two hits. Then in Sunday's contest against Presbyterian, Slusser picked up the victory when she did not allow a run on two hits in the final 2.0 innings to stop the Blue Hose's 14-game winning streak. In total, Slusser tossed 6.0 innings and had a perfect 0.00 ERA with a 2-0 record on the week.
