EDISON, NJ (April 19, 2022) – The 2022 Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) Water Polo Championships will feature Wagner College, Long Island University (LIU), Marist College, and La Salle University this weekend, April 23-24.
In the first semifinal on Saturday at 12 pm, No. 1 Wagner College (32-3, 16-0 MAAC) take on No. 4 La Salle University (22-13, 9-7 MAAC). Wagner swept their season series earning the first win of the series on February 26, 14-5. In their most recent contest on April 9, Wagner defeated La Salle, 21-11 behind six goals from junior Skye Nankervis and four goals from sophomore Andrea Arias. Senior goalie Kristina Bell made nine saves for the Seahawks. The matchup features Co-Preseason Players of the Year in La Salle’s Kalista Hyham and Wagner’s Sofia Alvarez Diaz.
No. 2 LIU (24-6, 13-2 MAAC) take on No. 3 Marist College (24-13, 11-4 MAAC) on Saturday at 3 pm. LIU defeated Marist in their lone matchup of the season on April 16, 12-10. Alejandra Aranguren, Jessica Dean and Elena Camarena combined to score 10 of the Sharks’ 12 goals in the game. LIU junior goalie Julia Zebak made seven saves and Marist senior goalie Marina Hyham registered six saves, respectively. Marist senior Viktoria Orlova scored a team-high four goals in the game.
The 2022 MAAC Water Polo Championship is a four-team, single-elimination tournament taking place April 23-24, 2022, at the McCann Natatorium on the campus of Marist College in Poughkeepsie, NY. The Championship will be held on Sunday, April 24 at 2 pm and all games will be streamed live on ESPN+.
