Marist’s Baratta, Canisius’ Giese and Monmouth’s Kerwood Named MAAC Softball Weekly Award Winners

Caroline Baratta, Marist

Baratta hit .455 with a 1.716 OPS (1.091 slugging, .625 on-base) in four games this past week. She scored six runs, drove in four, hit two home runs, stole two bases, doubled once, and drew five walks. She reached base safely multiple times in all four games. In the first game of a doubleheader against Iona on April 13, she hit a two-run walk-off homer in the bottom of the 10th in Marists' 5-3 victory. In the first game of a doubleheader against Monmouth on April 16, her first-inning homer started the scoring in Marist's 16-0 triumph. She scored three runs in that contest, and then doubled, stole two bases, and scored a run in the second game.
 
Pitcher of the Week
Megan Giese, Canisius

Sophomore Megan Giese played part in both of Canisius' wins at Siena Saturday morning. In game one, Giese struck out 10 batters in the seven-inning complete game, allowing just four hits and an unearned run in the 3-1 win. This was Giese's fourth time in five starts against MAAC opponents where she has struck out 10 or more batters. The reigning MAAC Pitcher of the Week also picked up her fourth save of the season in the second game, tossing 1.2 perfect innings in relief while fanning three batters in the Griffs' 2-0 victory. On the day, Giese picked up a win and save and struck out 13 batters in 8.2 IP while allowing just four hits and one walk, all while posting a 0.00 ERA.
 
Rookie of the Week
Billie Kerwood, Monmouth
Fr., Glenolden, PA, Interboro
 
Kerwood made four appearances last week (one start), totaling 18.1 innings and posting a 0.76 ERA, 21 strikeouts, and five walks. In the game two win over Marist, the freshman tossed her sixth complete game of the season, scattering just three hits while notching eight strikeouts.
