LAKE BUENA VISTA, FL (April 23, 2022) – The 2022 Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) Men’s and Women’s Golf Championships continued today from Disney’s Magnolia Golf Course. Iona Men’s Golf and UAlbany Women’s Golf continue to lead on their respective sides, but others shuffle to set up a competitive final round tomorrow morning.
On the men’s side, Iona (580) leads Fairfield (583) by three strokes. The Stags outshot the Gaels by six strokes in round two to climb into second place going into Championship Sunday. A strong day from Rider puts them just 10 strokes back with a team score of 586.
Individually, Iona’s Justin Burkhamer led all golfers in round two to extend his lead to four strokes. Burkhamer sits at five under par with a total score of 139. Iona’s Garrett Giles is in second at 143 (-1) and Fairfield’s Patrick McCarthy, Rider’s Austin Devereux, Saint Peter’s’ Melvin Morales, and Siena’s Jack Tobin all sit even in third place with a 144.
For the women, UAlbany (598) holds a four stroke lead after shooting the best team score for the second straight day. Dayton holds a four-stroke lead heading into Championship Sunday over Quinnipiac (602). A strong round three from Dayton (612) puts them 14 strokes back in third place.
Individually, UAlbany’s Claudia Blöchliger (144) holds a one stroke lead over Quinnipiac’s Leeyen Peralta (145). UAlbany’s Mariel Tee (146) led all golfers in round two shooting a 72 to put her in third place heading into Sunday.
