Quinnipiac and Fairfield Advance to 2022 MAAC Women’s Tennis Championship Presented by VisitNJ Title Match

WEST WINDSOR, NJ (Apr. 23, 2022) – No. 1 Quinnipiac University and No. 3 Fairfield University advanced to the title match of the 2022 Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) Women's Tennis Championship presented by VisitNJ on Saturday afternoon. The final will be a rematch of the 2019 championship.
 
Top seeded Quinnipiac earned a 4-0 win over No. 4 Niagara University to start the morning off. The Bobcats got the day rolling by snagging the doubles point with wins from Claire Koscielski and Kamilla Nella at the No. 2 spot (6-0) and Dominique Vasile and Jordan Bradley at the No. 3 spot (6-1). Quinnipiac would go on to secure the next three points in singles. Alessia Truden would defeat Elena Mayet (6-0, 6-3) at No. 1 singles. Nella topped Megan Gamble (6-0, 6-0) in the No. 2 spot. At the No. 6 spot, Andie Williams beat Mercedes Velasco (6-1, 6-1) for the fourth point. The Bobcats will look to win their sixth total MAAC tournament, having claimed the trophy in five consecutive seasons from 2014 to 2018.
 
Third seeded Fairfield took down No. 2 Siena College 4-0 in the second semifinal of the day. The Stags grabbed the doubles point by way of victories by the No. 1 and No. 3 pairs of Paulina Bakaite and Francesca Karman (6-3) and Sandra Bozinovic and Laina Campos (6-2), respectively. In singles, Fairfield would use three straight wins to claim the match. At the No. 1 spot, Bozinovic earned a win over Meagan Brown (7-5, 6-4). Bakaite edged Nanea Perkins (6-4, 6-4) in the No. 3 spot. At the No. 5 spot, Aina March was victorious over Maanya Viswanath (7-5, 6-0). The most successful women’s program in league history, the Stags are seeking their 11th MAAC title, last winning the 2019 championship.
 
The 2022 MAAC Women's Tennis Championship presented by VisitNJ final will take place on Sunday April 24 at 10:00 a.m.
