Quinnipiac Earns Back-to Back MAAC Women’s Golf Championships

LAKE BUENA VISTA, FL (April 24, 2022) – Quinnipiac University claimed the 2022 MAAC Women’s Golf title on Sunday at Disney’s Magnolia Golf Course after overcoming a four-stroke deficit. The Bobcats now claim back-to back titles and their fourth title in program history.

Three of Quinnipiac’s golfers finished in the top ten, earning All MAAC Team honors. Leeyen Peralta led the Bobcats, scoring two over-par 218 and claiming the 2022 Women’s Golf Individual Title. In addition to Peralta, teammates Kaylee Sakoda (+3) and Fuge Zhang (+12) finished in the top-10 to wrap up the championship.

Peralta’s first place finish earned her the 2022 McLeod Trophy. Since 1986, the Charles “Scott” McLeod Award has been presented annually to the individual winners of the MAAC Men’s and Women’s Golf Championship. The award is presented in memory of Scott McLeod, a 1980 graduate Iona College, a member of the Pelham Country Club, and a sponsor of the MAAC Golf Championship when the event was first held at Pelham.

UAlbany’s Claudia Blöchliger earned MAAC Women’s Rookie of the Year honors. The freshman finished in third with a score of 220 (+4) for the 54-hole event.

Fairfield head coach Doug Holub was selected as the 2022 MAAC Women's Golf Coach of the Year for the second year in a row.
