WEST WINDSOR, NJ (Apr. 24, 2022) – No. 1 Quinnipiac University returned to the top of the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) on Sunday afternoon, claiming the 2022 MAAC Women's Tennis Championship presented by VisitNJ. The Bobcats knocked off their in-state rival No. 3 Fairfield University 4-0 to clinch their sixth overall MAAC crown in program history.
Top seeded Quinnipiac got the action going by quickly securing the doubles point. The Bobcats took No. 1 doubles first, with the pairing of Alessia Truden and Kamilla Nella winning 6-0 over Fairfield’s Paulina Bakaite and Francesca Karman. Then at the No. 2 spot, Claire Koscielski and Brittney Wilbur took down Amanda Nowak and Katarina Plumtree (6-1). Quinnipiac would go on to secure the next three consecutive points in singles, winning all three matches in straight sets. At the No. 1 spot, Truden would knock off MAAC Player of the Year, Sandra Bozinovic (6-1, 6-1) handing Bozinovic her first defeat to a MAAC opponent in singles action this season. The Bobcats lead would extend to 3-0 following a win at No. 6 singles by Andie Williams over Scarlett Hutchinson (6-2, 6-0). The match clincher would come by way of a 6-1, 6-0 victory from Koscielski against Bakaite at the No. 3 spot, locking up the trophy for the Bobcats. At the conclusion of the championship, Truden was named the Most Outstanding Player for the 2022 MAAC Women’s Tennis Championship presented by VisitNJ as she went undefeated in her two singles matches at the No. 1 spot and 1-0 in her doubles position during the tournament.
Quinnipiac will earn the MAAC automatic qualifier to the NCAA Division I Women’s Tennis Championship. The Bobcats will find out their opponent and time on Monday, May 2 at 6:30 p.m. during the Women’s Tennis Selection Show on NCAA.com.
