2022 MAAC Women’s Water Polo Championship – Final

Wagner College defeated Long Island University 18-7 to claim 2022 MAAC Women’s Water Polo Championship title. The 2022 title is their seventh MAAC Water Polo championship title in the last nine seasons. Wagner had a strong start with an eight-point lead going into the half. They continued to lead the entire game with goals from Navarro, Simshauser, Diaz Alaverz, Josephson, Nash, and Alonso.
Wagner Notes
- Wagner finishes 17-0 in conference play
- Diaz Alvarez had one goal and Navarro two goals in the first 3:38 minutes of the contest
- Outscored the Sharks 5-1 in the second quarter
- The Seahawks finished the first half leading 10-2
- Mar Navarro (MVP) contributed four goals, three assists, seven points, and one exclusion
- Wagner shot 35 times, had four assists, 22 total points and 15 exclusions
LIU Notes
- Paola Dominguez led the Sharks with three goals from the field
- Jessica Dean tallied two goals and two steals for the Sharks
- Camarena nabbed one steal
- The Sharks shot 26 times, drew five exclusions, and three steals
- The Sharks finished their season ranked No. 23 in the Collegiate Water Polo Association (CWPA) rankings and had a 25-7 overall record and 13-2 in conference play
Following the conclusion of the championship title game, the All-Championship Team and Most Valuable Player were announced. Mar Navarro of Wagner College was named the championship’s Most Valuable Player. Navarro tallied four goals and five assists in the championship game. Joining Navarro on the All-Championship Team are Wagner’s Bell and Josephson, LIU’s Dominguez and Camarena, Marist’s Lizotte, and La Salle’s Hyham.
