Trio of MAAC Women’s Lacrosse Players Named to IWLCA All-Region Team

NORTHBOROUGH, MA (May 12, 2022) – Three Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) women’s lacrosse student-athletes were named to the Intercollegiate Women’s Lacrosse Coaches Association (IWLCA) 2022 Division I Northeast Region Second Team, announced by the IWLCA today.
 
The trio of MAAC representatives include the duo of Kelly Horning and Caroline Mangan of Fairfield University and Michelle Messenger from Niagara University.
 
Horning and Mangan led Fairfield to its fourth consecutive MAAC title this past weekend, guiding the Stags to a conference all-time best of seven championships. The duo was named to the MAAC All-Championship Team, while Horning was named MVP of the tournament. Horning ranks second in the MAAC in caused turnovers and third in ground balls. Mangan is fifth-best in the conference in caused turnovers and eighth in ground balls. Additionally, the pair were both named to the All-MAAC First Team following the regular season.
 
The unanimous MAAC Goalkeeper of the Year, Messenger became a two-time winner of the award, earning the honor in 2021 and 2022. The senior keeper leads the MAAC in saves per game, ranks second in saves percentage, fourth in ground balls and seventh in goals against average.
 
The IWLCA honored 128 total student-athletes in Division I with a selection to one of the All-Region teams for 2022. These student-athletes are now eligible to be named to a national IWLCA All-American team. The IWLCA will announce the 2022 All-American teams on May 26.
