PENNSAUKEN, NJ (May 15, 2022) – The Jacksonville University Dolphins secured the 2022 Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) Women’s Rowing Championship presented by VisitNJ on Sunday, capturing all three grand final races en route to the title. Jacksonville finished the day with a perfect 54-point total, earning victories in the Varsity Four, Second Varsity Eight, and Varsity Eight claiming the program’s sixth conference title.
In the Varsity Four Grand Final, Jacksonville won by open water over second-place Fairfield University, crossing the finish line at 7:36.942, more than five seconds ahead than the Stags. Fairfield earned the silver medal with a time of 7:42.468, with Marist College finishing in third (7:48.035).
In the Second Varsity Eight Grand Final, the Dolphins earned their second gold medal of the afternoon, winning the race in a time of 7:00.666, defeating second-place Fairfield (07:04.898) and third-place Marist (7:06.143).
The closest finish of the championship came in the final race of the day, the Varsity Eight Grand Final, in which Jacksonville won by 2.700 over second-place Marist, with a finishing time of 6:41.512, completing the sweep and clinching the MAAC Championship. The Red Foxes would cross the finish line in 6:44.212, helping Marist surpass Fairfield on the team leaderboard and finish as the team runner-up with 45 points. Stetson University would snag the bronze medal in the race with a time of 6:46.289.
In addition to the three grand final victories, the Dolphins also took gold in the Second Varsity Four (7:53:759), Manhattan placed second, and Robert Morris took third.
Right behind Jacksonville and second-place Marist in the final championship standings was Fairfield with 42 points. Stetson followed with 38 points and a fourth-place finish, while Sacred Heart University rounded out the top-five with 29 points. Drake University (20), Canisius College (19), Robert Morris University (12), and Manhattan College (11) closed out the team standings.
Jacksonville adds its sixth MAAC trophy to its collection, the program’s first conference crown since winning five straight league titles from 2014 through 2018.
Following the conclusion of the championship, the MAAC announced that Jacksonville head coach Mike Lane was named the 2022 MAAC Women’s Rowing Coach of the Year. Additionally, the MAAC released the complete 2022 MAAC Women’s Rowing All-MAAC Teams. The full list can be found below:

Jacksonville earns the MAAC automatic qualifier to the NCAA Division I Rowing Championship. The Dolphins will learn who they will compete against on Tuesday, May 17 at 5 p.m. when the complete field is revealed during the NCAA Selection Show which will be broadcast on NCAA.com.
