EDISON, NJ (May 5, 2022) – The Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) had several Esports teams compete in the 2022 EGFC National Championship including Canisius College, Fairfield University, Iona College, Manhattan College, Marist College, Niagara University, Quinnipiac University, Rider University, Saint Peter’s University, and Siena College.
 
In the Overwatch League Champions- Group Stage, Marist advanced to the Overwatch Championship Bracket where they defeated UConn, 3-0 in the Quarterfinals and William & Mary in the Semifinals, 3-2. The Red Foxes ultimately fell to Colorado in the Overwatch Championship, 3-0.  
 
In the Rocket League Champions- Group Stage, Fairfield advanced to the Rocket League Championship Bracket. The Stags fell in the First Round to the University of Montana, 3-0.
 
Quinnipiac advanced out of the Super Smash Bros. Ultimate Group Stage but fell in the First Round to eventual champion UT Arlington, 17-11.
 
Fairfield, Iona, and Manhattan all advanced out of the FIFA League Championships- Group Stage to earn first round byes in the Championship Bracket. In the Semifinals, Manhattan defeated Iona, 7-2 and Fairfield defeated William & Mary, 11-4 to set up an all MAAC FIFA League Championship. Manhattan would go on to defeat Fairfield, 5-4 to claim the 2022 EGFC FIFA League title.
 
In the Counter-Strike: Global Offensive League Champions- Group Stage, Marist advanced to take on Marquette in the Semifinals where the Red Foxes took two out of three matches to advance to the championship. The Red Foxes would go on to lose to DePaul, 32-9 in this year’s championship match.
