LAWRENCEVILLE, NJ (May 7, 2022) – Day one of the 2022 MAAC Men’s & Women’s Outdoor Track and Field Championships presented by VisitNJ concluded with both Monmouth University’s men’s and women’s programs on top of the team leaderboards with 58 and 75 points, respectively.

10 student-athletes, competing in 10 different events, were crowned MAAC Champions on day one of the 2022 MAAC Men’s & Women’s Outdoor Track and Field Championships.
Monmouth earned three gold medals on the opening day to lead all schools.
The Hawks earned 10 medals in the first day of competition. Monmouth earned both gold medals in the men’s and women’s javelin events. Evan Niedrowski earned his gold with a mark of 63.83 meters in the men’s event and Danielle Steff with a throw of 45.57 meters in the women’s event. The Hawks final gold medal of the day came behind Mackenzie Jones who placed first in women’s 10,000 meter run with a time of 35:45.39.
Manhattan’s Nina Björkman won the first gold medal of the championships, securing first-place in the women’s hammer throw, with a throw of 50.90 meters.
Siena took home the final first-place medal of the evening in the men’s 10,000-meter run. Junior Brandon Olden claimed first with a time of 29:55.02.
