Fairfield Claims Fourth Consecutive MAAC Women’s Lacrosse Championship; MAAC-Leading Seventh Program Title

Trailing by one heading into the second half, No. 4 Fairfield (13-6, 5-3 MAAC) battled back by outscoring No. 1 Monmouth (12-7, 6-2 MAAC), 7-3 in the second half to claim their fourth consecutive Women’s MAAC Lacrosse Championship and seventh in program history. Libby Rowe scored back-to-back goals between the third and fourth quarters that would become the go-ahead and eventual game-winning scores to give the Stags the championship.
 
Fairfield Notes and Notables
  • The Stags seven titles are the most in MAAC history, surpassing Canisius College’s record of six.
  • Rowe recorded a game-high six points on five goals and one assist.
  • Elizabeth Talluto scored three goals, two of which came on back-to-back goals in the fourth quarter.
  • Maggie Fort recorded two goals, one assist, four ground balls, six draw controls, and caused two turnovers.
  • Caroline Mangan had four ground balls and caused two turnovers.
  • Amanda Kozak and Ellie Grefenstette each scored two goals apiece.
  • Olivia Conquest recorded nine saves in the win.
  • Kelly Horning had one assist, two ground balls and two caused turnovers en route to being named the 2022 Women’s MAAC Lacrosse Championship Most Outstanding Player.
Monmouth Notes and Notables
  • Hope Steuerwald scored five goals on seven attempts on net.
  • Caroline Brennan scored three goals on the afternoon.
  • Madi Bednarik recorded 11 saves for the Hawks.
  • Danielle McNeely tallied one goal, two assists, four groundballs, and caused three turnovers.
  • Cassidy Orban recorded two assists, three groundballs and three draw controls.
  • Monmouth finished the 2022 season with a 12-7 overall record and a 6-2 record in the MAAC.
