Manhattan to Face Vermont in Opening Round of NCAA Tournament

RIVERDALE, N.Y. – Manhattan will visit Vermont in the Opening Round of the NCAA Tournament on Wednesday, May 11 in Burlington, Vt.

Opening faceoff is set for 6 p.m. in Burlington with broadcast information still to be determined.
 
Manhattan (8-6) is making its first appearance in the NCAA Tournament in 20 years. On Saturday, the Jaspers beat St. Bonaventure 8-7 in the MAAC Championship Game.
 
In the championship game against St. Bonaventure, Justin Malpica scored a hat trick and was named the most valuable player.
 
"Winning the MAAC Tournament and getting to the NCAA Tournament has been our goal since we got here", said head coach Drew Kelleher. "For the guys that came back, it's extraordinary. This time of year, teams are playing for more time together, and this team has earned that. I can't wait for practice on Monday."
 
Offensively, the Jaspers are paced by Kyle Gucwa with 30 goals and 39 points. Sean MacKinney, Liam Walshe, and Jake Nicolosi all have over 30 points this season. Gucwa, MacKinney, and Nicolosi were named First Team All-MAAC.
 
Defenders Luke Pacher, Christian Clifford, and Blake Lothian were named All-MAAC. Pacher collected first-team honors, while Clifford and Lothian were named to the second team.
 
Goalie Brendan Krebs finished the regular season with a 9.58 GAA, which ranked second in the MAAC.
 
The winner of Manhattan and Vermont will play No. 1 Maryland on Sunday, May 15.
