INDIANAPOLIS – Fairfield University Women's Lacrosse will open their fourth straight NCAA appearance against fifth-seeded and #5 nationally-ranked Syracuse on Friday, May 13. The game will be held at Princeton, where the host Tigers will be host UMass on the other side of the bracket, with the winners meeting on Sunday, May 15.
The Stags are 13-6 on the season following Sunday's 14-11 win over top-seeded Monmouth to win their fourth consecutive MAAC Championship. Friday's game kicks off the sixth NCAA postseason appearance in program history (2009, 2015, 2018, 2019, 2021, 2022).
Most recently on the short side of an 18-14 loss to Virginia in the ACC Tournament, Syracuse enters the national postseason with a record of 13-5 overall and finished at 6-2 in the ACC. All five of the Orange's setbacks came to nationally-ranked foes, and Syracuse has also notched wins over ranked teams this spring. The Orange reached the National Championship Game in 2021, falling 16-10 to Boston College in the title game. Coincidentally, the Eagles started their postseason run with a win over the Stags.
Fairfield and Syracuse have played three times in program history from 1998-2000. The Orange took all three meetings, eventually reached the NCAA postseason in both 1999 and 2000.
More information on Friday's matchup will be announced on FairfieldStags.com as it is finalized.
