EDISON, N.J. (August 16, 2022) – The non-conference portion of the 2022 Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) women’s soccer season begins this week, with eight teams slated to play this Thursday, August 18. Seven additional matches will be played on Sunday, August 21, as 10 of the MAAC’s 11 teams will see action this opening weekend.
Voted as the top choice in the 2022 MAAC Women’s Soccer Preseason Coaches’ Poll, Quinnipiac University begins its quest toward the program’s first-ever MAAC crown on Thursday afternoon as the Bobcats open the season at Lafayette at 2:00 p.m. in Easton, Pa. Quinnipiac tied for a league-best overall record of 15-5-1 last fall, finished second in the MAAC standings for the second consecutive year with a 9-3 conference mark, and has made six straight appearances in the MAAC tournament.
Selected second in the preseason poll, Niagara University opens its season at Buffalo on Sunday, with the opening whistle set for 7:00 p.m. in Buffalo, N.Y. The Purple Eagles went 13-4-1 overall (7-3-0 MAAC) a season ago and led the conference in goals (45) and goals per game (2.5).
Fairfield University hosts UMass in the Stags’ 2022 opener on Sunday, set to begin at 4:00 p.m. in Fairfield, Conn. The Stags have advanced to the MAAC Semifinals over their last two full seasons and were ranked third in the preseason coaches’ poll.
Selected fourth, Siena College opens its season this Thursday at Central Connecticut at 6:00 p.m. in New Britain, Conn. while Iona University and Marist College, tied for fifth, also open their seasons on Thursday; the Gaels head to Holy Cross in Worcester, Mass. while the Red Foxes host St. Bonaventure in Poughkeepsie, N.Y., with both contests slated to begin at 7:00 p.m.

The 2022 MAAC Women's Soccer Championship will take place from October 30 through November 6. The six-team, single-elimination championship will be hosted by the higher seed of each match. The opening round will take place on Sunday, October 30, followed by the semifinals on Thursday, November 3, and concluding with the championship match on Sunday, November 6.
