EDISON, NJ (Aug. 29, 2022) – Fairfield University earned its first win in 2022 with a shutout victory over Navy on Sunday to highlight Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) men’s soccer weekend action.

Rasmus Sorensen-Rejnhold and Alex Oliveira each scored a goal in the Fairfield University men's soccer season opener but UMBC's late offensive burst in the second half led the home team to an 8-2 win over the Stags. Sorensen-Rejnhold was able to score first for the Stags, putting a goal just inside the far post in the 35th minute of play. Fairfield was then able to cut its deficit to one goal following a goal by Oliveira from 25 yards out in the 59th minute of the match.

San Francisco scored two goals in the second half to defeat Niagara Saturday night in non-conference men's soccer action. Freshman goalie Jamie Barry made six saves in his first career start for Niagara. Nuukele Gboe and Sanchez Cervera led the Purple Eagles with two shots apiece.

Fairfield collected its first win of the season on Sunday, defeating Navy on the road 1-0. Raz Amir's first goal as a member of the Stags men's soccer team was an impactful one, with the forward scoring the match's lone goal in the 52nd minute which lifted the Stags to the shutout win over Navy. Fairfield keeper James Anderson made three saves in the game to record the clean sheet

Canisius dropped its home opener to Duquesne in men's soccer action Sunday afternoon at the Demske Sports Complex. Duquesne got its goal in the 62nd minute to secure the 1-0 victory over the Griffs. William Howard logged eight saves for Canisius in the contest.

The Manhattan men's soccer team suffered its first setback of the year, dropping a non-conference match against George Washington, 4-2, Sunday afternoon. Henry Hamilton provided his first goal as a Jasper, beating the Colonial's Justin Grady in the 36th minute to take a 1-0 lead. After falling behind, Dorian Bounab scored his first goal of the 2022 campaign in the 84th minute.
 
The 2022 MAAC Men's Soccer Championship will take place from November 6 through 13. The six-team, single-elimination championship will be hosted by the higher seed of each match. The opening round will take place on Sunday, November 6, followed by the semifinals on Thursday, November 10, and concluding with the championship match on Sunday, November 13.
