MAAC Men’s Soccer Produces Undefeated Day with Mount St. Mary’s and Quinnipiac Garnering First Wins of the Season on Tuesday

EDISON, NJ (Aug. 31, 2022) – Mount St. Mary’s University poured in four second half goals, while Quinnipiac University used a pair of first half goals to each claim their first wins on a perfect night of Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) men’s soccer on Tuesday.

Mount St. Mary's men's soccer team scored four times in the final 25 minutes, securing a 4-1 triumph over Radford at home in Waldron Family Stadium, the team’s first win of the season and as a member of the MAAC. Jesus Salazar led the Mountaineers with a pair of assists on the first and third goals, before capping off the night with a splendid shot off a free kick that sealed the match in the 89th minute. Ruben Kiers scored his first goal as a Mountaineer in the 68th minute, for the equalizer coming from a cross into the box by Salazar. Salazar then found Ethan Glaser, who headed it along to the right foot of Marcus Lewis, earning a perfect sliding shot for the go-ahead score in the 71st minute. Bobby Marsteller would score the Mount’s insurance goal, his first collegiate tally, in the 83rd. The win for Mount St. Mary’s was the first in program history over Radford.

Quinnipiac claimed its first win of the young season, getting past Vermont, 2-0, at Virtue Field in non-league play on Tuesday night. Brage Aasen netted both goals for the Bobcats, coming in the 33rd minute and 36th minute of action, respectively. Alex Holle assisted the first score and captain David Bercedo earned a helper on the second goal. In goal, Matthew Pisani made six saves while the Bobcats defense earned the clean sheet victory.

The 2022 MAAC Men's Soccer Championship will take place from November 6 through 13. The six-team, single-elimination championship will be hosted by the higher seed of each match. The opening round will take place on Sunday, November 6, followed by the semifinals on Thursday, November 10, and concluding with the championship match on Sunday, November 13.
