Three MAAC Men's Lacrosse Standouts Drafted in 2022 NLL Draft

EDISON, NJ (September 11, 2022) – Three MAAC men's lacrosse standouts were selected in the 2022 National Lacrosse League (NLL) draft on Saturday.

Former Siena midfielder and Brampton, Ontario native Seth Van Schepen '22 was drafted in the first round, 10th overall to the Calgary Roughnecks.

Canisius alumni Ryan Sharkey '22, a four-year Golden Griffins defenseman and two-time All-MAAC selection playing his fifth year at UMass, and Siena fifth-year midfielder Christian Watts '22 will join forces with the Buffalo Bandits, as Sharkey went in the fourth round with the 73rd overall pick and Watts went in the fifth round with the 82nd overall pick. The future NLL teammates are New York natives, as Sharkey hails from Yonkers and Watts is from East Aurora. 

The NLL is North America’s premier professional lacrosse league, a professional men's lacrosse box league comprised of 15 franchises across the United States and Canada: Albany FireWolves, Buffalo Bandits, Calgary Roughnecks, Colorado Mammoth, Georgia Swarm, Halifax Thunderbirds, Las Vegas Desert Dogs, New York Riptide, Panther City Lacrosse Club (TX), Philadelphia Wings, Rochester Knighthawks, San Diego Seals, Saskatchewan Rush, Toronto Rock, and Vancouver Warriors. The indoor league begins in December and ends in April.
