Quinnipiac and Rider Both Blank Their Opponent to Headline MAAC Men’s Soccer Action on Wednesday

EDISON, NJ (Sep. 15, 2022) – Quinnipiac University posted its third clean sheet win of the season and Rider University earned a shutout win over CCSU to headline Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) men’s soccer action on Wednesday.

Five different Quinnipiac players scored on Wednesday afternoon at the QU Soccer Stadium in Hamden, as the Bobcats powered past Sacred Heart by the final score of 5-0. David Bercedo, Alexander Stjernegaard, Alex Holle, Tomas Svecula and Ole Frigstad each found the back of the net for the Bobcats as the team improved to 4-1-1 on the season, going undefeated over their last five matches. Karl Netzell made two saves in goal to help anchor the defense. Offensively, Quinnipiac held a 17-7 shot advantage and 9-2 shots on goal edge.

Rider University men's soccer defeated Central Connecticut, 2-0, on the road Wednesday night snapping a four-game skid and picking up its first win of the season. The Broncs took the lead in the ninth minute as Jack McGeechan crossed into the box, where Adel Al Masude knocked it in from close range to give Rider a 1-0 lead, scoring for the second-straight game. In the 88th minute Dylan Kotch rocketed a shot from 20 yards out from the top, right corner of the 18-yard box for his first-career goal and the insurance goal to secure the victory. Guillamue Veinante posted the first shutout of his Rider career, making two saves.

The Fairfield University men's soccer team came up one goal short on Wednesday evening against unbeaten University of Rhode Island, 1-0. The Rams scored a second-half goal off a set piece that resulted in a 1-0 setback for the Stags. James Anderson finished the game with a season-high 10 saves, facing 16 shots over the 90-minute match. The Stags managed five shots in the game with three being on target.

The Manhattan men's soccer team dropped a heartbreaker to LIU, 2-1, Wednesday afternoon in non-conference action. The Jaspers struck first in the 26th minute when Ronaldo Da Silva took the ball up the right side of the field and sent it out to Johan Velez, who took the ball and buried a right-footed shot in the bottom left of the net for his first goal season. Both LIU goals came in the second half, with the Sharks scoring in the 64th and 89th minutes to steal the win.
 
The 2022 MAAC Men's Soccer Championship will take place from November 6 through 13. The six-team, single-elimination championship will be hosted by the higher seed of each match. The opening round will take place on Sunday, November 6, followed by the semifinals on Thursday, November 10, and concluding with the championship match on Sunday, November 13.
