MAAC Men’s Soccer Concludes Out of Conference Schedule

EDISON, NJ (Sep. 26, 2022) – Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) men’s soccer teams concluded the non-conference portion of the season this past weekend with five contests. League play is set to open this week on Wednesday, September 28 with a full slate of games.
 
Friday, Sep. 23
Rider (1-5-1, 0-0-0 MAAC) – 0 | Princeton (3-2-1, 0-0-0 Ivy League) – 3

Rider fell to in-state foe Princeton, 3-0 on Friday night. The Tigers scored less than three minutes into the match and never surrendered the lead. Princeton would add two more goals in the 54th minute and 62nd minute in the game. Dylan Kotch took a team-high three shots and Lenny Cidolit put Rider's lone shot on target.

The Iona University men's soccer team played to a scoreless draw with Columbia in its non-conference finale at Mazzella Field on Saturday. In the tie, Iona outshot Columbia 10-6 and also held a 6-2 edge in shots on goal. Thiago Cagna, Sergio Gonzalez Fernandez and Joe Wright led the Gaels with two shots apiece, while six different Gaels registered a shot on goal in the scoreless draw. Juan Alfaro Monge made two saves in goal, earning the first draw of his collegiate career.

The Fairfield University men's soccer team finished the non-conference portion of its season with a 6-0 setback against Harvard University. Alex Oliveira led the Stags with three shots, which were all on goal, followed by a pair of shots from Raz Amir and Thomas Drillien. James Anderson made six saves in goals for Fairfield.

Marist fell to Cornell 1-0 in Saturday evenings non-conference matchup. Cornell scored the lone goal of the contest in the 69th minute of play. Marist was edged in shots (13-12) but had a 3-2 shot on goal advantage. Jared Juleau and German Fuentes led the Red Foxes with three goals each and Henrique Cruz had two shots with both on target.

The Siena Saints gave up a pair of second half goals, leading to a 2-1 loss to Brown on Saturday in their final non-conference game of the season. The Saints got out to a lead in the first half by way of junior Bilal Hersi, who scored his third goal of the season with a far side chip in with help from sophomores Zach Gardner and Jesper Schone Vogtengen in the 15th minute. In the second half, Brown would come away with the equalizer in the 72nd minute and the game-winner in the 83rd minute.
 
The 2022 MAAC Men's Soccer Championship will take place from November 6 through 13. The six-team, single-elimination championship will be hosted by the higher seed of each match. The opening round will take place on Sunday, November 6, followed by the semifinals on Thursday, November 10, and concluding with the championship match on Sunday, November 13.
