EDISON, NJ (Sep. 7, 2022) – Iona University won a thrilling contest over NJIT in its home opener, while Quinnipiac University and Siena College each earned hard fought draws to highlight Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) men’s soccer action on Tuesday.

The Iona University men's soccer team was victorious in its 2022 home-opening match, defeating NJIT 3-2 at Mazzella Field on Tuesday afternoon. All five goals in the match were scored in the first half, with the first four coming in a four-minute span. NJIT struck first in the 21st minute, but Iona quickly responded in the 22nd minute when Camil Azzam Ruiz squeaked a shot past the keeper for the equalizer. The Gaels needed just under three minutes before finding the back of the net again with Sergio Gonzalez Fernandez scoring on a long-range shot that was perfectly placed over the head of the keeper. NJIT would tie the match again in just 23 seconds. In the 44th minute, Kendell Thomas headed home the decisive goal right before the half.

Quinnipiac men's soccer played to a 2-2 draw at Northeastern on Tuesday at Parsons Field. David Bercedo scored to get the Bobcats on the board first, blasting a one-timer from Alex Holle into the back of the net for his third goal of the 2022 campaign. Jason Budhai scored the go-ahead goal for the Bobcats in the beginning of the second half after Alexander Stjernegaard won possession at midfield and played it ahead to Budhai, and the senior finished to put the Bobcats ahead once again.

Siena College traveled east to ACC foe Boston College, playing to a 1-1 draw at Newton Field. Despite registering just three shots during the entirety of the match, the Saints found the stat sheet and the scoreboard in the 66th minute, with redshirt-senior Antonio Linge knocking a deflection in the box up top for his first goal of the season which evened up the match. The draw continued the Saints' best start to a season since 2014, and gave them their first point against a Power Five opponent since upsetting a ranked Ohio State squad back on August 29, 2011. Graduate student goalkeeper Greg Monroe made three saves on the evening, with his first one going as number 300 for his career and making him just the fourth Saint to log 300 saves.

Manhattan was defeated by Fordham 3-1 in the 49th installment of the "Battle of the Bronx" on Tuesday night at Jack Coffey Field. Fordham scored first, but Manhattan responded with the equalizer in the 24th minute when James Cotter took a long ball from Dorian Bounab and set up Ronaldo Da Silva for his first goal of the year. The Rams added a pair of the goals in the second half to secure their first win in the annual rivalry since 2018.
The 2022 MAAC Men's Soccer Championship will take place from November 6 through 13. The six-team, single-elimination championship will be hosted by the higher seed of each match. The opening round will take place on Sunday, November 6, followed by the semifinals on Thursday, November 10, and concluding with the championship match on Sunday, November 13.
