EDISON, NJ (Jan. 27, 2023) – Thursday night featured a standalone Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) men’s basketball league matchup between Fairfield University and Mount St. Mary’s with the Stags coming away with a road victory to claim their fourth consecutive win.

Fairfield edged Mount St. Mary’s, 63-60, on Thursday night at Knott Arena. A matchup of the top two defenses in the MAAC, the Stags improved to 6-4 with their fourth straight win, while the Mountaineers fell to 3-7. Fairfield led for the majority of the opening half with the team’s exchanging the lead five times. In the second half, it was a game of runs, with the largest lead for either team over the final 10 minutes being only four points. Fairfield went on a 9-to-2 run to take a 41-33 advantage; then the Mountaineers countered with a 12-3 run for a 45-44 lead; but the Stags answered right back with a 7-0 run that put Fairfield back on top, 51-45. The Mount added an 8-0 run that put them back in front at 53-52 with 5:55 left, before Fairfield scored the game's next four points for a 56-53 advantage, the final lead change of the game. Allan Jeanne-Rose led the way offensively for the Stags with a team-high16 points while TJ Long netted 10 points. Dakota Leffew led the Mountaineers with a game-high 19 points and eight rebounds while Jalen Benjamin had 11 points and George Tinsley added 10 points.
