EDISON, NJ (Feb. 2, 2023) – The Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) today announced its ESPNU TV schedule for the upcoming 2023 stanza. For the second straight season, two MAAC contests will be elevated to ESPNU with a regular season matchup in April and the 2023 MAAC Men’s Lacrosse Championship title match in May both being elevated to the national network.
The regular season MAAC game that has been flexed to ESPNU will be the Wednesday, April 12 meeting between Siena College and Marist College. The midweek ESPNU national broadcast will have a face-off time of 12:00 p.m. at Hickey Field on the campus of Siena College in Loudonville, New York.
Marist enters 2023 as the MAAC favorites to win the league title according to the Preseason Coaches’ Poll, collecting six first place votes. The Red Foxes placed the graduate student duo of Jojo Piercca and midfielder James Lyons on the Preseason All-MAAC Team, with Piercca also being voted as the Preseason Player of the Year. Marist finished 2022 with a 5-1 MAAC record, earning a share of the regular season championship. The Red Foxes ended up dropping a heartbreaking overtime thriller to eventual champion Manhattan, in the semifinal round of the 2022 tournament.
Siena was selected third in the preseason poll, behind Marist and defending champion Manhattan. The Saints placed a league-high four players on the All-MAAC preseason team, with one representative at each level of the field. The quartet included Pratt Reynolds at attack, Christian Watts in the midfield, Trevor Marsala on defense, and Chris Yanchoris as the keeper. Siena recorded an even 3-3 league record last season, good for the No. 4 seed in the tournament. In the semifinals of the 2022 MAAC Championship, the Saints would fall to top overall seed St. Bonaventure 12-10.
The 2023 MAAC Men's Lacrosse Championship will take place between April 29 and May 6, 2023.
