2023 MAAC Women’s Soccer Postseason Play Continues on Thursday in Connecticut with the Semifinal Round

EDISON, NJ (Nov. 1, 2023) – The 2023 MAAC Women’s Soccer Championship continues this week with the remaining four teams continuing their MAAC title pursuit in the semifinal round on Thursday, November 2, with both games being played in the state of Connecticut. No.1 Quinnipiac is set to host No. 6 Rider at 2pm at the Quinnipiac Soccer & Lacrosse Stadium in Hamden and No. 2 Fairfield is set to host No. 4 Mount St. Mary’s at 7pm at Lessing Field in Fairfield.

The semifinals will begin with top-seeded, reigning MAAC champions, Quinnipiac hosting No. 6 Rider at 2pm. The Bobcats return to the MAAC postseason for the eighth year in a row and are looking to repeat their playoff run from last year. Quinnipiac enters postseason play with a league-high 11 overall wins and a league-best nine conference victories during the regular season en route its second straight regular season crown. The Bobcats enter postseason action on a 15-game MAAC unbeaten streak, dating back to last October, going 14-0-1 over the timespan and a perfect 2-0 in postseason play. The Rider Broncs advanced into the semifinal round after upsetting No. 3 Canisius in the opening round of the MAAC Championship. The Broncs are appearing in the MAAC Championship tournament for the 11th straight year since 2013, making their first semifinal appearance since 2021. Rider will be seeking its first semifinal win since 2014, which was also the last time the Broncs won the MAAC Championship title. When the two teams met during the regular season, Quinnipiac topped Rider 1-0 back on September 30, in Lawrenceville, NJ. In postseason play, the last time these squads met was during the quarterfinal round of the 2017 championship in Lake Buena Vista, FL, with No. 3 Quinnipiac eliminating No. 6 Rider, 3-1.

The second match of the semifinal round is taking place in Fairfield, CT, as the No. 2 Fairfield Stags host the No. 4 Mount St. Mary’s Mountaineers. Fairfield, who has the most championship title game appearances in the MAAC (11) and owns a league-best seven MAAC Women’s Soccer Championship titles, are making its fifth straight postseason appearance and third consecutive final four. The Stags are coming into the semifinals on a three-game winning streak and the team is unbeaten over their past five outings. Mount St. Mary’s is making its first appearance in the MAAC Championship field in just its second season in the conference. The Mountaineers are coming off an opening-round draw against Niagara University, which ended in a 3-1 penalty kick shootout victory for the Mount, giving the program their first ever postseason victory in women’s soccer history. The two teams met on September 16 in Fairfield, with the Stags scoring a 3-0 shutout over the Mountaineers. The clash on Thursday will be the first postseason contest between the two sides.
 
The winners of the semifinals will advance to the 2023 MAAC Women's Soccer Championship final on Sunday, November 5. The championship match will be played at the higher seed’s facility and will air live on ESPN+ (time TBD).
