Canisius’ Eleko and Fairfield’s Andersen Named Hercules Tires MAAC Women’s Basketball Weekly Award Winners

Sophomore forward Sisi Eleko began her season with a bang, becoming the first Griff in four seasons to total back-to-back double-doubles. She would notch her first double-double with a 15 point and career-high 19 rebounds at Buffalo before surpassing that with a career-high 24 points and 10 rebounds in Canisius' 78-62 win against Saint Francis. Through two games, she is averaging a double-double with 19.5 points and 14.5 rebounds while adding in one block and three steals.

Freshman forward Meghan Andersen averaged a team-high 19 points per game while shooting 59 percent from the floor in her first collegiate week, helping the Stags to a 2-1 record. Andersen reached double-figures in every game. According to HerHoopsStats, Andersen became the first player since at least 2009-10 to record five 3-pointers, nine rebounds, six blocks, and three assists in a game against a Division I opponent; reaching those numbers in the win against Lipscomb. In the near upset at Vanderbilt, Anderson tallied eight of her 15 points in the fourth quarter helping the Stags in their comeback attempt. She recorded 19 points in her collegiate debut against Lehman, the most by a Stag freshman in their collegiate debut since 1979.
