2023-24 MAAC Women’s Basketball Season Tips-Off Today

EDISON, NJ (Nov. 6, 2023) — The 2023-24 Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) women’s basketball regular season tips-off today Monday, November 6 with five teams in action between 5-7 p.m. All 11 member schools will take the court on opening week, with all the first games of the season being played through Thursday.
Five teams take the floor on opening night including MAAC Championship runner-up, Manhattan College, as well as Fairfield University, Canisius University, Quinnipiac University and Saint Peter’s University. Action starts with Canisius tipping off against Buffalo on the road at 5:00 p.m. followed by Quinnipiac hosting the University of Maine at 5:30 p.m.

The Canisius Golden Griffins stay local for their first game of the season as they take on the University of Buffalo Bulls. Facing the same season-opening opponent for the last three years, the Griffs are 2-1 against the Bulls.

Quinnipiac, the No. 3 seed of the 2023 MAAC Championship, opens their season up with a home game against the University of Maine. The last time these two teams competed against one another was back in 2016. The Bobcats are led by veteran women’s basketball coach Tricia Fabbri who enters the 2023-24 campaign with 503 career wins and is ranked 32nd among active Division I head coaches.

Saint Peter’s starts their campaign at 6:00 p.m. against A10 foe the University of Massachusetts.

Fairfield, who was voted third in the MAAC preseason poll, hosts Lehman College for their season opener. Led by head coach Carly Thibault-DuDonis and MAAC preseason first-team guard Janelle Brown, the Stags start their campaign at 7:00 p.m. at Leo D. Mahoney Arena.
 
2023 MAAC runner-up, Manhattan tips-off at 7:00 p.m. against Central Connecticut State University with a home contest at Draddy Gymnasium.
Midweek action will feature reigning Champions, Iona, taking the court on Tuesday, November 7 at 7:00 p.m. against Seton Hall on the road. The Gaels are led by Angelika Szumilo, who is in her first season as Iona head coach. Rider also takes the floor on Tuesday night, traveling to Philadelphia to take on Saint Joseph’s at 7:00 p.m.
 
Niagara University opens its season on Wednesday, November 8 at 6:00 p.m. against St. Bonaventure. Picked as the 2023 preseason favorites, Niagara and Preseason Player of the Year, Aaliyah Parker, are in pursuit of its first MAAC Championship title.
 
Finishing out the week, three MAAC teams take the court to open their respective seasons on Thursday, November 9. Siena starts the night out with a road game at Binghamton at 6:00 p.m. The Saints were chosen second in the MAAC preseason poll.
 
Marist takes the floor at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday against Army. Marist were picked fourth in the preseason and the Red Foxes squad has two MAAC preseason first team members in Kiara Fisher and Zaria Shazer.
 
The last MAAC unit in action on opening week is Mount St. Mary’s. The Mountaineers travel to Washington D.C. to take on the Howard University Bison. This season, Mount St. Mary’s is led by Antione White and a veteran squad.
