Fairfield’s Berg, Marist’s van der Merwe and Rider’s Giehtbrock Garner Molten MAAC Volleyball Weekly Award Honors

Player of the Week
Sasha van der Merwe, Marist

In two road matches this past week against Quinnipiac and Fairfield, Sasha van der Merwe collected 46 kills and 14 digs. For both matches, she averaged 5.75 kills and 6.38 points per set.
 
Libero of the Week
Kyla Berg, Fairfield
Sr., Fishers, Ind., Hamilton Southeastern

Kyla Berg averaged 3.50 digs per set in a 3-0 week for the Stags. She totaled 35 digs in 10 sets in MAAC wins over Manhattan, Siena and Marist as Fairfield held the trio to a .122 hitting percentage. Berg also landed a kill, served up two aces and had five assists on the week.
 
Rookie of the Week
Paige Giehtbrock, Rider
Fr., Clarkston, MI., Clarkston
 
Outside hitter Paige Giehtbrock averaged 3.29 kills and 3.29 digs per set as the Broncs swept the western New York swing this weekend. In the win over Canisius, Giehtbrock recorded a double-double with 12 kills and a career-high 18 digs to go along with three blocks and an ace. Against Niagara, Giehtbrock racked up 11 kills in just three sets to go along with five digs and a pair of blocks.
 
 
The 2023 MAAC Volleyball Championship is a six-team, single-elimination championship taking place November 17-19, 2023 at Leo D. Mahoney Arena in Fairfield, CT. Fairfield University will serve as host of the three-day championship with the opening round on Friday, November 17, the semifinals on Saturday, November 18, and the championship match on Saturday, November 19. Current conference members include: Canisius University, Fairfield University, Iona University, Manhattan College, Marist College, Mount St. Mary’s University, Niagara University, Quinnipiac University, Rider University, Saint Peter’s University, and Siena College. Merrimack College and Sacred Heart University will join the MAAC as full members in the 2024-25 academic year, expanding the conference to 13 institutions.
