Canisius Sweeps Swimming, Rider Sweeps Diving MAAC Weekly Awards

Men’s Swimmer of the Week:
Sam Vidal, Canisius
So., Montpellier, FranceLycée Mermoz
 
Vidal took first place in the 100 breaststroke in Canisius' meet versus St. Bonaventure. He finished with a time of 58.49 to win the race. The Golden Griffins men's 200 medley relay team also finished second at the meet, with Vidal swimming the second leg with a 25.98 split.
 
Men’s Diver of the Week:
Marcas Racevicius, Rider
Sr., Watertown, CTHoly Cross High School
 
Racevicius finished in first and second place in two events at the Rider Diving Invitational. He won the 3-meter with a score of 289.90 and placed second on the 1-meter, scoring 264.20. This is the fourth MAAC Diver of the Week award for Racevicius.
 
Women’s Swimmer of the Week:
Lauren Martin, Canisius
Fr., Rochester, NY, Penfield
 
Martin picked up her first collegiate win in Canisius' meet versus St. Bonaventure. She touched the wall first in the 1000 freestyle with a time of 11:18.85.
 
Women’s Diver of the Week:
Karyn Creelman, Rider
So., Mohnton, PA, Governor Mifflin
 
Creelman scored 208.65 on the 3-meter, finishing second overall and as the top finisher for the Broncs at the Rider Diving Invitational. She scored 201.65 on the 1-meter, which placed her fourth.
 
The 2024 MAAC Men's & Women's Swimming & Diving Championships is a four-day meet that will take place February 14-17, 2024 at SPIRE Institute in Geneva, Ohio. The 2024 championships will be the first time the meet is held at SPIRE Institute. With 11 institutions strongly bound by the sound principles of quality and integrity in academics and excellence in athletics, the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) is in its 43rd year of competition during the 2023-24 academic year. Current conference members include: Canisius University, Fairfield University, Iona University, Manhattan College, Marist College, Mount St. Mary’s University, Niagara University, Quinnipiac University, Rider University, Saint Peter’s University, and Siena College. Merrimack College and Sacred Heart University will join the MAAC as full members in the 2024-25 academic year, expanding the conference to 13 institutions.
