EDISON, NJ (Dec. 15, 2023) – The 2023-24 Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) women’s basketball conference slate begins this weekend with five conference games taking place on Saturday, December 16. The December stanza will feature all 11 MAAC women’s squads taking the court at least once, with five additional contests on Monday, December 18 in addition to Saturday’s matchups.
Saturday opens with reigning MAAC champions Iona University taking on preseason favorite Niagara University at 1pm at the Hynes Center in New Rochelle, NY. The Gaels currently sit in third in league standings with a 5-3 overall record and are on a four-game win streak.
Saturday continues with four more games, all tipping off at 2pm. The MAACs hottest unit with a 7-1 overall record and No. 23 national ranking in the Mid-Major top-25, Fairfield University, hosts Mount St. Mary’s University. The Stags are on a five-game win streak, and off to their best start to a season in forty years. Canisius University travels to Siena College to take on the Saints in a matchup between the fourth and fifth place teams in the current league standings. Manhattan College will welcome Rider University to Riverdale, NY. The Jaspers are enjoying early season success with a 5-2 overall record and riding a three-game win streak. The final tilt of the weekend will be between Marist College and Saint Peter’s in Jersey City, NJ.
The MAAC December slate will conclude on Monday with another full schedule games on tap. The top matchup on Monday’s docket will be a clash between the top two teams in league, Fairfield and Manhattan. Additionally, Quinnipiac University will open its conference ledger on Monday, traveling to Lawrenceville, NJ to take on Rider.
