Iona’s Clayton and Siena’s Eley Claim Hercules Tires MAAC Men’s Basketball Weekly Honors

Iona sophomore Walter Clayton Jr. led all MAAC performers with 24.5 points per game this past weekend. During the Gaels first 2-0 performance on their annual Western New York swing in seven seasons, he also averaged 3.0 assists, 2.5 rebounds and 1.0 steals. Clayton Jr. shot 54.3% from the field and 53.3% from long distance. At Canisius Friday, he posted 19 points to lead the Gaels in a 21-point victory over the Griffs. He followed it up with a career-best 30-point effort at Niagara Sunday, scoring 17 in the first half as the Iona earned a 17-point MAAC road win over the Purple Eagles. He had four three pointers and four assists in the win.

Michael Eley, Siena

Eley returned from a two-game absence (illness) to average 17.0 points and 4.0 rebounds while shooting a stellar 52% from the field in a perfect 2-0 weekend for the Saints. The freshman guard erupted for a career-high 23 points off the bench in his first game back Friday night, shooting 8-of-14 from the field while adding five rebounds in a victory at the Mount. Eley capped the weekend with an 11-point performance off the pine in Sunday's triumph over Marist.
