EDISON, NJ (Feb. 14, 2023) – Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) Coordinator of Men’s Basketball Officials, Mike Stephens has received a contract extension through June of 2026.
“Mike has done a tremendous job in reorganizing the MAAC men’s basketball officiating corps, utilizing technology and video as is the expectation in Division I Athletics,” noted MAAC Commissioner Rich Ensor. “The MAAC Committee on Athletics Administration and the men’s basketball sport committee strongly endorsed Mike’s contract extension.”
Stephens was hired by the MAAC in July of 2021 when the league joined the Officiating Alliance. Stephens’ extensive career began in 2000 after being selected by the America East as a game official. In the two decades since, he has found himself officiating for a number of NCAA Division I conferences, including the Big East, Big 12, ACC, SEC, Atlantic 10, Patriot League, Ivy League, and the MAAC. In 2011, he was assigned to his first NCAA Division I Men’s Basketball Final Four officiating crew. It wasn’t long after that he would get the opportunity to officiate his first NCAA Division I Men’s Basketball National Championship game, getting the call in 2015. Between 2011-2019, Stephens officiated in three Final Four games (2011, 2014, 2018) and four National Championship games (2015, 2016, 2018, 2019).
