Iona junior, Nelly Junior Joseph led the Gaels to a pair of double-digit MAAC wins this past weekend, averaging 15.5 points and 13.5 rebounds. Junior Joseph posted two more double-doubles to raise his total to 17 for the season, the third most in NCAA Division I this season. It was his 14 in the last 15 games. Junior Joseph opened the week with 12 points and a career-high 17 rebounds vs. Manhattan and closed it with 19 points and 10 rebounds at Saint Peter's. The third-year performer shot .500 from the field during the week. This is Junior Joseph’s MAAC-leading fifth Player of the Week award of the season.
Rookie of the Week
Tahj Staveskie, Canisius
Fr., Sandusky, OH, Sandusky
Canisius redshirt-freshman Tahj Staveskie averaged 19.0 points, 5.5 assists and 3.0 rebounds per game as the Golden Griffins went 1-1 on the road at Rider and Mount St. Mary's. In the win at Rider Friday, he scored a team-high 21 points, his second game with 20-or more points scored in the team's last three outings. He scored the first 14 points of the game for Canisius against Rider and sealed the win with four free-throws in that game's final eight seconds. On Sunday, he scored 17 points, his 18th game in double-figures, and he also matched a season-high with six assists. For Staveskie, this is his fifth MAAC Rookie of the Week honor of the season, tied for the most amongst all other league rookies.
