Marist’s Anderson; Canisius’ Kelly, Kunz & Hanson Receive TicketSmarter Men’s Lacrosse Weekly Awards

Offensive Player of the Week
Collin Kelly, Canisius

Canisius’ Collin Kelly tallied nine goals to help lead the Griff’s to a pair of victories last week. Kelly found the back of the net on 75 percent of his shots on goal (9-of-12) and pitched in 10 ground balls. The redshirt sophomore tallied two goals and added five ground balls in Canisius’ 13-5 victory over Little Three rival St. Bonaventure on March 14 and finished with a career high seven goals in Canisius’ 18-16 victory over Marist on March 18. Six of his seven goals came during the first half and Kelly recorded the most goals in a game by a Canisius player since the 1996 season with his seven-goal performance against the Red Foxes.
 
 
Defensive Player of the Week
Tommy Kunz, Canisius
So., Birmingham, MI, Brother Rice
 
Tommy Kunz recorded 29 saves and boasted a .580 save percentage in helping lead Canisius to a pair of victories last week. He allowed a season-low five goals against and made 15 saves in a 13-5 triumph against Little Three Rival St. Bonaventure on March 14.  Kunz followed that up with 15 stops in the Griffs’ 18-16 victory versus Marist on March 18.
 
Face-Off Player of the Week
Micah Hanson, Canisius
Fr., Black Earth, WI, Wisconsin Heights
 
Hanson won .603 percent of his draws in helping lead Canisius to a pair of wins last weekend. Then went 35-of-58 at the face-off X while also recording a team-best 20 ground balls. The freshman also finished with two assists during the week and went 16-of-21 at the X and finished with a season-high 11 ground balls in Canisius’ 13-5 triumph against Little Three rival St. Bonaventure on March 14. Hanson also dished out an assist in the victory versus the Bonnies and was 19-of-37 on draws in an 18-16 victory versus Marist on March 18.
 
Rookie of the Week
Drew Anderson, Marist
Fr., Los Alamitos, CA, Los Alamitos
 
Marist freshman, Drew Anderson, recorded three points against Canisius. Anderson scored two goals and collected one assists, along with picking up a groundball.
 
 
The 2023 MAAC Men's Lacrosse Championship will take place between April 29 and May 6, 2023. The six-team, single-elimination tournament will open on Saturday, April 29 with the opening round hosted by the higher seed of each matchup. The semifinals and championship final will be hosted by the highest seed in the field and will be played on Thursday, May 4 and Saturday, May 6.
