Iona’s Jenkins and Canisius’ Staveskie Collect Final Hercules Tires MAAC Men’s Basketball Weekly Accolades of 2022-23

Junior Daniss Jenkins led Iona to a 2-0 week and an 10th and 11th straight victory by averaging 21.5 points, 8.0 assists, 4.0 rebounds and 1.0 assists and was a perfect 10-for-10 from the free throw line. He committed just four turnovers in 72 minutes and had an assist to turnover ratio of 4-to-1. Jenkins started the week with a 21-point, 10-assist double double vs. Marist at home, his third points-assists double-double of the season and just the fourth among MAAC performers this season. Jenkins added seven rebounds in a near triple double.  In the regular season finale at No. 2 Rider, he had a game-high 22 points, including seven in the final two minutes to help hold off the Broncs in a two-point victory on the road.  Jenkins added a team-high six assists and two steals in the win.
 
Rookie of the Week
Tahj Staveskie, Canisius

Canisius redshirt-freshman Tahj Staveskie scored a team-high 24 points and grabbed a team-best six rebounds as the Golden Griffins ended the regular season with an 81-64 win over Niagara at home on Saturday. Staveskie went 10-for-18 from the field, 2-for-6 from 3-point land and 2-for-2 from the free-throw line in the win. He also tallied a team-high four assists and a team-high three steals. The 24-point performance was his third game with 20-or more points this season.


The 2022-23 campaign culminates with the 2023 Hercules Tires MAAC Men’s and Women’s Basketball Championships from March 7-11 at Atlantic City's Jim Whelan Boardwalk Hall for the fourth consecutive year.
